The Hoja Project was set up as a UK registered charity in 2005 and since 2013 has now run under the charity registration of COCO (Comrades Of Children Overseas). COCO has supported Hoja since the very early days, so this represents no real change in the day-to-day operation of Hoja.

COCO's webpage on Hoja can be found here, and they regularly produce news on all their projects. This blog is updated on a volunteer basis, so new posts tend to be every few months.

Children's Health Researcher Wanted

As Hoja haven't done much work yet on the health side of things, rather focusing more on education, COCO would like to get some data on children's health in the community, with an eye to setting up an outreach clinic.

To put it in Lucy's words:
COCO and Hoja are mainly focusing on education in Songea, Tanzania and we have done very little health work, with the exception of performance groups about HIV/AIDS and Malaria. At our new project in Kenya, our partners were lucky enough to find a nutritionist from UK, who volunteered for one month in Kenya and collected data concerning the nutritional and general health levels of the children in an area where we are hoping to build and run an outreach clinic. This research has been essential for our proposal and will be even more important to measure the improvements that will undoubtedly be made in 1, 2 and 3 years time etc. I would really like to find someone who could give up some time to carry out a health survey of the children in this area.
